One little monkey jumping on...

His NEW BIG BOY BED!! AGHHH! Have we gone completely crazy?? I think so.

We've been looking for a good twin/bunk bed Christian. We found one we really like, but seeing as how we're still trying to get out of the hole, it wasn't looking too hopeful.

Patrick's parents rocked our world and gave us their old bunk bed. We are super grateful!

So, last Tuesday our dear friend and cousin Devin helped Patrick haul it in his truck back to our house. We put it together Wednesday morning and Thursday we got the MOST FABULOUS SHEETS EVER for it. Christian thought it was the coolest thing ever helping daddy put it all together then bouncing, running, and flopping on it.

The transition has been a bit of a struggle since Christian will climb out of bed and find us if he isn't totally asleep. Even though it isn't smooth sailing, we very glad we're getting a good start on the adjustment before Muffin shows up. Thankfully, the past 2 days/nights have been pretty successful with naps and night sleep. Thank heavens!

Anyway, here are some of the cutest pictures you have ever seen in your life!

And now, by FAR the cutest picture you have EVER seen...

One night while I was gone to a meeting, Patrick let Christian go play in his room. Going in to check on him, this is what he found...

(The book he's 'reading' contains parental advice from the friends and family who came to Christian's baby shower--I guess he wants to know who is to blame for what. Now he knows who to thank and who to... well, nevermind.

A little later...

p.s. we are gladly accepting any wisdom on how to get a kid to willfully stay in their bed (aren't we all?)

Definitly the most fabulous sheets ever! He's so cute and SO big reading those books. I love the hideout under the bed. He's going to have a blast with "muffin". I'm so glad you got a bunk bed! That must be a huge relief! AS far as kiddos staying in the bed. It's a pain, but don't make it an option any other way. As soon as they get out, pick them right up (not snuggling or anything) and put em right back in bed. The first time, say "It's night time. Time for sleep". The next time, say "Good night" and then every bajillion time after that, don't say anything at all. Warning: They might cry.

(I got these tips from super Nanny, and they totaly worked for us. OUr kids may stay awake for a few hours (not usually) but they know not to get out of bed.)

I adore that the way you write is exactly how you would say it if you were telling the story in person. It's too funny! You're right, those pretty much are the cutest pictures I have ever seen in my life :)

Cute pictures and sheets! I am glad you found a bed and Christian adores it! I agree with Tia--that's what we had to do . . . even if it means spending most of the night in the hallway so you can put him back in his bed as soon as he gets out. It worked for us. Even now the kids are really good about not getting out of their beds without permission first. And lots of crying will probably result--but it doesn't take them that long to figure it out. A big key, like Tia mentioned is making sure you don't talk or snuggle or kiss--just straight back in bed without any extra "rewards" for getting out. We give the boys books to look at with the hallway door open.

They still end up in our bed snuggling with us occasionally, but they call out to us from their room and have to get our okay (after a bad dream or in a scary storm). We are starting to ease up a little so they will get out and go to the potty on their own and get back in bed. (Nothing like being woken up 3 times in the night by a kid who has to pee--doesn't take too much of that before you want them to figure out how to take care of business and climb back in bed on their own!) Anyway--good luck!

What a handsome looking family! As far as advice goes I cop out by saying that before I had any kids I had lots of answers on how to raise them and now after having seven children I don't have any answers.

I do know a few things, though, about kids the most important being that kids need lots of loving and reassurance that they are loved.

I also firmly believe that the best thing that a Dad and Mom can do for their children is to love each other unconditionally. Children do best in families where the parents love each other and help each other. Marriage can be challenging at times but it is so much better than any other alternative that has been invented.

Grandma Hadfield and I love all you so very much. Thank you all for being such wonderful people.

Love,

Dad & Mom Hadfield
